SZ is a place to promote inter-cultural dialogues
联合国教科文组织大会主席戴维森·赫本：
深圳是不同文化对话的好地方
"I have a 30-day visa. Is that sufficient to see your city around?" Dr. Davison L. Hepburn, President of the General Conference of UNESCO who came to Shenzhen for the first time yesterday asked me in a humorous way, showing his interest in this fast-developing city.
Born in 1932, Dr. Hepburn received education in the U.S., Spain and Switzerland and has rich international working experiences. He said UNESCO is involved in five major programs: education, science and technology, culture, communication and world heritage. The Creative Cities Network, which is related to education and arts, is a part what UNESCO is all about.
"From my point of view, the conference in Shenzhen is extremely significant." He explained that it would become a very good opportunity for the world to get to know the city better, while the city would have information coming to it from all parts of the world. Through the conference, the city would create an atmosphere that people feel they have known each other and would like to sit down to chat, and finally come together and voice their ideas, he added. He believed that would promote peace, harmony and inter-cultural dialogues. "Shenzhen is one of the most important cities in term of inter-cultural dialogues." He said.
Bahamas, Dr. Hepburn's motherland and a famous tourist destination, is working very hard in joining the UNESCO Creative Cites Network. "So many things are happening in Bahamas now. Bahamas will be the first country in the Caribbean to have the membership." According to him, the efforts the city is making include reconstructing the downtown center, expanding its harbor and building new roads.
"We will become a City of Design. So that means Bahamas and Shenzhen can work closely together ." Dr. Hepburn concluded.

“我有一个３０天的签证。这是不是足够好好看看这座城市了呢？”联合国教科文组织大会主席戴维森·赫本博士是第一次来到深圳，但是昨天他对记者提出充满幽默的问题，显示出他对这座快速发展的城市充满了兴趣。
赫本博士１９３２年出生，他曾在美国、西班牙和瑞士接受教育，并且有丰富的国际工作经验。他介绍，联合国教科文组织有五大项目领域，分别为教育、科学技术、文化、沟通和世界遗产。涉及到教育以及艺术的创意城市网络，正是联合国教科文组织的一部分。
“在我看来，在深圳举办的这次大会格外重要。”他解释道，大会将成为世界更多地了解深圳的好机会，城市将会获得世界各地汇聚来的信息。通过大会，深圳将会创造出一种良好的氛围：人们好像互相认识，想要坐下来聊一聊，最终走到一起汇聚想法。此次创意城市网络大会最终将促进和平、和谐和不同文化之间的对话。“深圳是不同文化之间对话的非常重要的城市之一。”
赫本博士的祖国、旅游圣地巴哈马也在积极地申请成为创意城市网络的成员。“所以，如此多的变化正在巴哈马发生。巴哈马将会成为加勒比地区第一个创意城市网络的成员。”他介绍，巴哈马所做的努力包括重建城市中心，扩建港口，修建道路，等等。
“我们将会成为设计之都中的一员。也就是说，今后巴哈马可以跟深圳一起紧密地合作。”他说。
